I can't listen to the King's of Leon track 'Use Somebody' without having nauseous flashbacks to entering the vast, cold M.C.G. grandstand at Sound Relief. 'Use Somebody' was the soundtrack to my arrival, and darkest hour. A descent into the grips of a TheVine sanctioned hangover that had me trembling from toe to quivering, sweaty lip.
I'm sorry Kings of Leon, it wasn't you it was me.
Natasha Khan went into the BBC Radio One's Live Lounge program last week and, alongside her own "Lo Fi" take on Two Suns' lead single 'Daniel', recorded a version of the aforementioned KOL hit. Say what you will about this country's slavish embracing of Kings Of Leon in recent times (as they blanded out) but, well the song is pretty faultlessly arranged. Khan strips back the cock rock and makes it sound like the protagonist of the song actually needs somebody, rather than pining to just use them. A worthy interpretation with a dose of subtlety that the Followill's would do well to note.
