Tiombe Lockhart is a honey with a voice like honey. In our humble opinion, it is quite a natural reaction to jump, bite and devour anything she regurgitates (disclaimer: music-wise). Hence our interest in her new(ish) side-project Cubic Zirconia, a quartet the Brooklyn vocalist has formed with three other dudes: Nick Hook (Drop The Lime), Todd Weinstock (Men, Women, and Children) and Daud Sturdivant.
Cubic Zirconia dives in with a dirtier approach than on Tiombe’s solo stuff – the upcoming Fuck Work vinyl/digital nugget the perfect example. This one’s all cold drumbeats and techno jams while Tiombe kicks back in a monotone robot drawl. There’s also a number of remixes on the EP, one coming from our favourite wham-bam-funk-you man, Dam-Funk.
As an aside, we recommend seeking out Cubic Zirconia’s dirt-sexy 'I Wanna Freebase You' single that came out a little while ago, but is entirely still worth getting into.
