Rens - I used to work for a guy who spent a lot of time in NY. He’d always say “Yo B, this shit is bananas”. Hopefully some of that ends up here.

Recycled art Nov 26, 2007 at 11:00
El Anatsui, an artist from Ghana, creates amazing, glittery and beautiful artworks from recycled bits and pieces. Made from timber, bottle caps and labels, copper wire, washers and aluminum, his pieces are sculptures, tapestries, and installations all at once. His concerns, which he reflects in his art, revolve around indigenous African cultures and the sad disappearance of many African traditions.

He apparently loves using chainsaws; "The chainsaw is a tool that I found useful for shaping...  [the chainsaw is a] language of violence, of tearing, of clawing, of dividing". The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City has just purchased one of Anatsui's gigantic artworks (the main image), which has most recently been exhibited in Venice.

The pictures are awesome, imagine what they'd be like in the flesh.
