You don’t need a fancy multiplex with surround sound, allocated seating and a frozen Coke to enjoy B-grade horror. The themes explored in titles like Evil Dead, Cujo the Killer Dog, Demonic Toys and Crazy Cat Lady are pretty much timeless, and can be appreciated by film buffs in the worst places on earth.
Take Ghana, they might not have fancy schmancy seats, air-conditioning or actual cinemas like us fat fucks in the West, but they’ve got projectors, VHS tapes and walls to screen stuff onto. Also they have fearless artists, ready and willing to construct DIY posters having never seen the movie before. Or even heard of it.
Our local Hoyts should take note, these illustrations from unknown artists are a million times better than that old photo of Mel Gibson they’ve still got up.
