Rens - I used to work for a guy who spent a lot of time in NY. He’d always say “Yo B, this shit is bananas”. Hopefully some of that ends up here.

Jennybird's spoonful of sugar
<< Back
Myths, fairytales and fantasy Oct 10, 2008 at 11:16
At first glance, Jennybird's artworks seem to have a cuteness, an innocence, as the artists puts it, "a spoonful of sugar that helps the medicine go down" but after the initial sweetness, there's an underlying darkness. Often focusing on nature, myths, fairytales and fantasy, Jennybird is also fascinated by "the brutality and decay lying quietly beneath beauty and nature, that of the natural world as well as human nature".

Inspired by the sad, creepy and beautiful; broken dolls, strange religious statues and out-of-place objects; the artist explains her work and her inspirations more vividly and beautifully than we ever could and you should definitely check out her website where her artworks are showcased with amazing detail alongside the creepy, haunting dolls she creates.
