A lot has been said about Kanye West of late, and I've held off
jumping on the Kanye news train, cause quite frankly i couldn't give
any less of a shit. Until now. i received his album in the mail a couple of days ago, and I finally feel compelled to write a little something about the Kanye sideshow. I promise this is the first and potentially last post I'll do about Kanye, so I'll try to squeeze in as much information as I can.
I guess i should start with the album Graduation, which was released a few days ago. Now there has been a lot of hype building up to this, first there was the whole 50 Cent vs. Kanye album sales feud, the cover art mystery, and the leaked track 'Stronger' featuring Daft Punk. Now I've finally got my hands on the album, I think it's pretty safe to say that the best part of it is the cover art, produced by amazing Japanese artist Takashi Murakami. (Images to the right) However that's not to say the album is bad - it's not, you could even say that it's good - there are bright moments in 'Champion' and 'Good Life', but essentially it's a collection of pretty straight up hip hop tracks that just don't match the hype, which I guess it was never going to do anyway.
Then there are the tantrums. First at the European MTV Video Awards last year where he lost out to the video for Justice Vs. Simian's 'We Are Your Friends' causing him to bum rush the stage and announce his distaste for his loss to winning director So Me, making for some of the funniest footage I have seen in a long time. Check the video out below. (It's shit quality, but it's all i could dredge up.)
