Kehinde Wiley makes visual mash-ups
<< Back
A hip hop Renaissance Jan 06, 2010 at 12:43
Kehinde Wiley's beautiful and super detailed artworks have been all over the interweb recently and for good reason. His paintings are unique mash-ups that pay homage to hip hop culture and the Renaissance.

Wiley's subjects are in contemporary clothing but pose is traditionally heroic and majestic ways, surrounded by amazing floral details. His portraits say more things than we can here; he provokes thoughts about masculinity, race, tradition, power and a million others.

New York-based Wiley received a Bachelor in Fine Arts from Yale and has had his works exhibited internationally, as well as being part of permanent collections all over the USA.
