It's difficult to see the line between the label Kid Vanilla and its creator, Eva Balg. Seemingly the same entity, Kid Vanilla was born in Antwerp and grew up on a diet of hip hop and graffiti. Balg, along with three other designers, now makes pieces that are handmade due to quality and ethical reasons, and half of the prints are silkscreens, while the rest are digitally printed.
Some of the collection will make you feel like an overgrown toddler, with bright horse patterned leggings and ruffle skirts and other bits and pieces have a serious Olivia Newton-John circa 'Physical' vibe. Somehow, because the creators clearly don't take themselves too seriously, the collection works because it's a little bit tongue-in-cheek and mostly fun.
About to release their 09 range, Kid Vanilla is available in Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Japan and some places online.
