To celebrate the 100th year anniversary of the birth of Ian Flemming ,
publishing powerhourse Penguin recently commissioned the very talented
British born, San Francisco painter Michael Gillette to paint iconic covers of 14 James
Bond novels. Amazing work. His sexy interpretation of the infamous Bond
girls, with a striking minimal colour palette overlayed with
interlocking 60's inspire type treatments are so good they're sure to
bounce off the shelf.
Check out the paintings to the right of this post and for more Michael Gillette madness take a look at his blog Pencil Squeezing.
It would seem a shame if these beautiful pieces were only confined to
the small covers of a hardback (available May 29) but never fear, Cosh have a limited edition of 25 signed Giclee prints (50x70) of each the covers for sale (£145.00 each)right now.
Also if you're in London over the next few months some of the work will
be on display at BOND BOUND: IAN FLEMING AND THE ART OF COVER DESIGN.
22nd April - 28th June 2008 @ The Fleming Collection 13 Berkeley Street
London W1J 8DU.

im going to put my neck out there and say i dont like them... not that i dont like the illustrations, and im a huge fan of Gillette, but i just think they dont work with the bond theme...
a few exceptions are moon raker and casino royale... but still if i was comissioning someone to do james bond books, id surely add a little glitz, a little more sex (these look cute not sexy) and to make the colours bold and 60's...

Beautiful illustration, i cant help but feel the big ol' 007 / pengiun motif is a bit out of place on quite a few of them though! still.....
