Mikhael Subotzky
Nelson Mandela said "No one truly knows a country until one has been
inside its jails. A nation should not be judged on how it treats its
highest citizens, but its lowest ones." Mikhael Subotzky ventured into some of South Africa's jails that are
notorious for their oppression, racism and incarceration of countless
political prisoners. The prisons are, as Subotzky saw, overcrowded and
understaffed, and are rife with violent gangs; which, due to numerous
arrests, are growing by the day.
