Nicolas Malinowsky on death and the afterlife
<< Back
La vie après la mort Jan 06, 2010 at 08:45
Upon rummaging through the an array of random objects from a deceased estate in a thrift shop, French graphic designer and resident at the super cool Ill-Studio in Paris, Nicolas Malinowsky was inspired. Over a period of time Nicolas began purchasing various pieces from the store including seemingly random books and vinyl records, later discovering that all of these pieces that had appealed to something within him had all belonged to the same, now deceased person.

Commenting on the collector's taste, Nicolas states “This man must have been very knowledgeable and well-travelled. He may well have been an anthropologist, or at least a genuinely humanistic person, someone with a passion for the world, particularly India, the Ottoman world and Central America. Most of his books contain lavish illustrations and some of the records are rare research editions. He must have spent much of his time building up his collection before it landed between a frying pan and a discounted porcelain figurine at my local second hand store. I wanted to honour this man after meeting him in such an odd posthumous way”.

The style reflects the current design trend and fascination with religious and philosophical symbology and the mysterious secret societies of our past. Pretty damn rad if you ask me.

to the right of this post is some samples from the series and for the rest visit NicolasMalinowsky.com

Nice work. Nice story to it too. Some of these would look great in colour, like image 9.

yeah I agree Gold Pox. I do kind of like the black and white thing he's got going there though. I feel like I should be looking at them on an old 60s tube TV or something.
