I didn't wear a pair of Nikes for a year or two. It wasn't that bad not wearing them as I was a skateboarding anyway and had fresh Axions, Etines, and Airwalks to sport.That soon became a problem when I started seeing Nike SB in CCS and magazines. I didn't order that much skate products online anyway, skate shops is where I bought most of my skate items. Skateboarders at the time didn't care for Nike because they believed the brand was too commercial.
I myself grew up with four older brothers who played basketball and different sports. Yes, I've seen my share of orange boxes and I use to skate in my Jordans all the time. I remember in the late 1990s kids started to buy Air Force ones and skate in them. Nike saw the boom in skateboarding then took advantage of the situation by reissuing older model sneakers.It's been a long hard road for Nike in the skateboarding department especially with Nike prices. Skateboarders wouldn't pay insane prices for Nike skates shoes, so Nikes marketing plan was to drop the price down so skateboard shop owners could sell the Nikes for five time the price.
The roles have reversed as skateboarders like the Nikes SB and so do the urban kids now. I remember getting off the bus in downtown Atlanta when this kid in a nice roca wear jog suit asked me where I got my sneakers.They were brown suede low top Nike SB's I acquired at the skate shop by the house for dirt cheap, $45 dollars. I know I said I wasn't going to buy Nike shoes anymore but I gave into the price and comfort of a really good shoe. I mean its like skating on air and they last forever it seems. Oh, and I like Tiger Woods enough trying to dig myself out of a hole.
The May lineup releases for Nike SB are out. Whoop,Whoop!! Are you excited? I'm happier than a fat kid at chucky cheese. If you aren't familiar with the different style names here they are: Ferris Bueller Dunk High, 720 Degrees Dunk Low, gold and aqua Air Trainer 2 SB, white and green P-Rod II (Have 2 pairs of these), and many more.
