Patrick Swayze dies aged 57-years-old
<< Back
Nobody puts Swayze in the corner Sep 15, 2009 at 11:02
Patrick Swayze – star of Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Point Break, Road House and Donnie Darko – has died aged 57-years-old of pancreatic cancer. Swayze was once voted People magazine's 'Sexiest Man Alive' and also dabbled in singing, performing songs on the Dirty Dancing soundtrack. His breakthrough role as dance instructor Johnny Castle had ladies (and fellas) swooning and he still gives audiences goosebumps with "Nobody puts Baby in the corner".

Later in his career, Swayze performed in the stage versions of Guys and Dolls and Chicago. The all singing, acting and dancing Swayze was married to his wife Lisa for 34 years. The couple met in 1970 when he was 18-years-old and she was just 14-years-old.

This is a man who wore meggings, danced, starred in 'chick flicks', whose character Bodhi said "They only live to get radical" and was still a dignified gentleman.

Nobody puts Swayze in the corner.

All due respect Patrick. You entertained us all over the years. Condolences to your family and friends. But I just wouldn't be being me if I didn't respectfully ask everyone to give me a hoy when we can start ripping out the ghost jokes.

It took AIDs 22.3 years to be officially funny (South Park) so all we need is a mathematician to do his stuff and compare AIDs to dear old Patrick. Also found this... A possible source of inspiration for the AIDS joke is the Ayds (pronounced as "aids") diet candies that were commercialized in the 1980s. The Ayds commercial clearly states that "Ayds can help you lose weight" with a series of customers testimonies explaining how Ayds helped them to get fit with no side effects.

Nooooooooo. Road House was a on rotation for years when I was younger. Legend.

God do I have to even think about Young Blood? I am more upset by this than the passing of Michael Jackson by about 100x...

Totally agreed. At least Swayze was a nice family guy, and he didn't melt when you put him too near the fire.

...and then go hard again when put in front of a primary school.

Oooh that was good. I'm so glad that the statute of limitations on MJs death has ended. Bring on the jokes already.

It was over the day it happened.

Michael Jackson was a genius. Troubled but entirely amazing. Unfreeze your cold, black hearts!

Gold NJ. Gold.

Not sure if his disease was related to too many party, too much boozing, or sex! Hope he lives in peace.

Please!! Anyone in commercial TV, Roadhouse and Red Dawn tribute movies instead of Ghost and Dirty Dancing. So us gentlemen can pay tribute to Patrick instead of hating him for those two movies!!

Yeah he cleaned the box office with the chick flicks, but always came back for the macho roles that flopped. Respect. Also a fun fact; he always did his own stunts.

Devastating. Point Break and Donnie Darko are both in the upper echelons of my all time favourite films. Respect.

Of all the articles posted on this sad news, this one definitely included the best choice of lead image. That's the Swayze I'd like to remember most.

RIP Patrick Swayze. I remember seeing the movie "Ghost" when I was just in high school. Its a big loss for the movie industry. After a long battle with pancreatic cancer, the actor Patrick Swayze has passed away. He was 57 years of age. Patrick Swayze was diagnosed in 2008 with stage 4 cancer, and it metastasized to his liver. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive forms, with less than 5% of patients surviving 5 years, most succumbing within 6 months of diagnosis. Swayze leaves behind an intimidating body of work, including smashing successes in blockbuster films, hit TV shows, and even a few highly regarded indie appearances and stage work. He will certainly be sorely missed, and there will be many paycheck loans worth for tributes to Patrick Swayze.
