Austin-based artist Michael Sieben makes artworks that seem simple enough, but are weird, wonderful, tragic and very pretty all at the same time. Mostly working with acrylic paints and pencils on wood, Sieben's creations have a kind of childlike quality but are still complex. The little details in faces and feathers are a bit mesmerising and you can stare at some of these pieces for ages.
Sieben lives in Austin and spends his time writing and illustrating for Thrasher magazine, designing skateboards, working with Volcom Art Loft and skateboarding. Apparently he likes watching movies with his wife, eating lunch with his dad, and "hanging out at the river with anybody who enjoys hanging out a the river". We like the sound of him.
