Slovenian skateboarding through the eyes of Jaka Banik

For most, skateboarding is probably one of the last things that might
come to mind when you think of the small central European country of Slovenia.
That is of course unless you are Jaka Babnik. Not only did he complete
his history degree with a paper on the History of Slovenian skateboarding and his sociology degree (the dude's a bit of a genius) with a paper on Skateboard as an unique medium of experiencing city spaces,
he's also one of the great documenters of the subculture through both
static and moving image. He was the photo editor for Slovenian-Croatian skate
mag Pendrek for 8 years and a director of several skate films... his eye is well
in tune with the local scene.
His images are as technical as they are artistic and he brings a unique
perspective and approach to skate photography. What also strikes me
about his work is how totally rad Slovenia looks to street skate in, so
many interesting banks and creative concrete to let loose on.
