Americans get a hard time. Sure, SOME of them are overweight, war-mongering, power-hungry, redneck, fundamentalist Christian, conservative, right-wing, jock arseholes. But let's not forget that Ellen Degeneres is American. And she's mother-flipping awesome. (There are lots of other good ones too, we know. Like Barack Obama, Britney Spears, Seth MacFarlane, Snoop Dogg, Tina Fey, Prince, Oprah and co.)
So in honour of the 4th of July, we've compiled some golden songs about the very excellent USA. America, fuck yeah.
Don McLean 'American Pie':
Kim Wilde 'Kids in America':
The Guess Who 'American Woman':
James Brown 'Living in America':
Beach Boys 'Surfin USA':
Estelle 'American Boy':
Gil Scott Heron 'Winter in America':
Willie Nelson 'Let's Take Back America':
Styx 'Miss America':
LCD Soundsystem 'North American Scum':
David Bowie 'Young Americans':
Dishonourable mention: Aaron Carter 'Surfin USA'. Thanks for nothing, kid.
