Subtle "The prevailing sound on the record is a mix of chopped up samples, odd effects and distorted beats with the distinctive frenetic nasal rhymes of Doseone lurking in the shadows."
Subtle
Wishingbone By: Dimitri Kalagas

Formerly a subsidiary of Warp, experimental hip-hop label, Lex has been home to various acts such as Boombip and Danger Mouse, with Oakland sextet Subtle now also joining the fold. Subtle’s line up almost reads like a who’s who of the Leftfield hip-hop genre, made up of members from Themselves, Boom Bip and 13 & God, including Doseone, plus collaborations with members of The Notwist and Mike Patton of Mr Bungle and Faith No More fame. The prevailing sound on the record is a mix of chopped up samples, odd effects and distorted beats with the distinctive frenetic nasal rhymes of Doseone lurking in the shadows. Intriguing and freshly original in its production, Wishingbone comes packaged with an accompanying DVD by animators SSSR, which has been part of the official selection for various international film and animation festivals including ResFest. Engaging and almost folksy despite the artificiality of it all, Wishingbone is an interesting release that will please fans of the genre, but will most likely remain unsatisfying and inaccessible for the uninitiated.
