Misaki Kawai has her fingers in lots of pies. Creating sculptures, installations, paintings, papier mache, illustrations, photos and incredibly cute zines, she is one very busy lady. The 29-year-old Japanese artist attended the
Kyoto College of Art and has since had her artworks featured in heaps of exhibitions and publications like Nylon, The New York Times and The Village Voice. Impressed much?
Described as Sesame Street mashed up with MTV (tokyobeat.com) Kawai's pieces are have a gorgeous naivety and a kind of raw, unpolished nature. Despite some of the themes and scenes appearing simplistic and cute, a lot of her work delves a lot deeper than it seems at first glance.
