I am with you on the vid by Yelle, those moves are actually awesome. The other kids 'battling' are totally gay. It's just like hardcore 4am rave dancing back in the early 90s for Gods sake.

Sweet Jesus! Yeah the first vid is cheesy rave moves done well, but even then it's fkn funny! The last 2 are the kind of moves you pull when you're having an ironic dance off to Pump up the jam at a dying house party! Catch the rave ball!

Maybe we should import more tight jeans over there, so tight that they won't be able to move, so the world won't be subject to this madness.... madness I say....

the first vid is awesome because it's to yelle. and yelle is just fantastic by nature. hottest french girl around with attitude. seeing her at parklife this saturday!!!
i don't know if this whole tektonikcraze will sweep the guys here off their feet. i doubt they can even pull of retardedness like that. it's such a different culture, probably too extreme for the guys here to pick up on. which may be a good thing...

i like it, cause it ain't easy.. it demands SKILL and IMPROVISATION. Its a pleasure to execute.... you're standin still but your arms are all over the place... this means that you get to have synchronized fun without falling over... look at jumping.. its just legs.. boring as shit unless you are actually doing it...AND even jumping demands SKILL same as tecktonik...
so hey, RESPECT ALL FORMS OF CHOREOGRAPHY.
next year you'll see people doing new things and this blog will get all excited about it all over again.
cause as much as you reference power rangers... admit it.. you love tecktonik

You could poke someones eye out busting those moves in a crowded nightclub. Also... it looks as though mullets making a comeback. Looks like we're in for some hilarious online photos in 2008!

Hi
I'm french :) I can tell you, Tecktonik is like the most hated dance style here, it really looks like they're having a seizure when they "danse" like that... 99% of people can't stand tecktonik...
But for an unknown reasons, it appeared in the "mass media", on TV and magazines... but even with so much "influence", it seems nobody like this shit :)

My French friend recently went back to France 2 months ago and said EVERYONE was doing it, he hated it but had a drunk go once. I must admit the Tecktonik battles are a little silly but i enjoy tecktonik dance, keeps your veryyyy fit and is a heap of fun.
But we all have our own thoughts :)

This is amazing in a hilarious kind of way.
I dig it though, to an extent.
The battling is kind of lame.
Still gotta love the french kids, giving us justice and busy p (L)

i thought this tecktonik bollocks went unnoticed outside our little smelly country. it's not even that popular here. the thing is, it looks dead silly, and they're always swaying their bony arms in the most crowded places in paris, so it looks like there's tons of them when it's just a few dozens. oh and by the way, yelle stinks. so does justice. how come the most terrible french acts are always so succesful abroad? air, daft punk, and now justice?

Incredible, you can't go wrong with a mullet and Reebok pumps but please leave the dancing to mc hammer.

Say what you will, but I kind of like it (well, in the first video at least. I imagine most people that do it are at a similar level of mediocrity as the guy in the 2nd vid). It's like a mix of old-school locking, popping and rave. Very interesting when done well...

well it may have started in france, but it sure as hell didnt stay there. this has gotten so INSANE in D.C. !! =)
at first i thought it was funny and a little weird, but after trying some of the more difficult moves out myself, it became a hobby and i love it now.
by the way, the dancers in the Yelle video arent doing this justice... if you want to see GOOD tecktonik dancing check out:

At first, I thought it was quite silly really... But that point of view did not last long. Given there are a few silly aspects of the scene, it does take quite some skill and fitness to pull off.
It reminds me of liquid mixed in with several other dance moves from other scenes but does have its own originality as well.
The key is that there are way more variations and specific moves than in liquid and and sub-genre dance style.
That's why these kids practice... And practice a ton they must in order to keep their moves fresh. Hardly any of it is random.
I give tecktonik a +1.
