Edward Burtynsky Photography Mar 03, 2008 at 03:30
According to Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky, his large scale, highly detailed photographs are meant to serve as metaphors of the dilemma of our modern existence. They reflect the effects of industry on mankind and our planet in a way that's both beautiful and terrifying at the same time. Amazing stuff.

To the right of this post are some images from his series Urban Mines depicting what appears to be a post apocalyptic landscape of tyres and scrap metal and also some samples from his series on the manufacturing plants in China and the lava like nickel tailings of Ontario.

For more (and there's plenty more) visit Edward Burtynsky's website.
