If they were dancers on Soul Train Jan 28, 2010 at 03:14
Even if you weren’t old enough to watch it on TV, the legendary nature of Soul Train has resulted in the hour-long program becoming embedded into our cultural memory. If it wasn’t for the music (and you are INSANE if you can’t find something to like about Al Green, Ike and Tina, Marvin Gaye, the Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, David Bowie, Cameo, New Edition or any of the show’s guests throughout its 37 year history), it was about the moves. And if it wasn’t about the dancing, then it would have to be about the sweet threads.

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of America’s longest running, first-run syndicated series in history, VH1 Docs has prepped Soul Train: The Hippest Trip In America. The 90-minute documentary will premiere in New York tonight, and features an original score from ?uestlove of the Roots, as well as appearances by Chaka Khan, Sly Stone, Aretha Franklin, Snoop Dogg, Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff (of Gamble and Huff production/songwriting fame). We predict it will be (almost) as awesome as this:

The guy in the white knickerbockers is as cool as it gets. Nobody can beat that. Awesome.
