Tim Burton’s
Alice in Wonderland has opened in cinemas to decidedly 'mixed' reviews. While it borrows liberally from the Lewis Carroll classic, the film is actually set several years after the book and has an entirely new storyline. Some people don’t appreciate that. Or the fact Johnny Depp looks like Madonna. Or the new art style in general.
While John Tenniel's original sketches are the most commonly accepted version of what Wonderland is supposed to look like, Alice and the supporting cast have been interpreted in countless ways since the book was first published in 1865. In Asia you’ll find Alice has dark hair and is (naturally) drawn in an anime style, in the west she’s all flowing blonde locks, over in Eastern Europe the characters are creepier than a creepy creep at a creep convention.
