Cocktails and Dreams
10/9/2009 8:52:29 AM
So, last time I posted I had just arrived in Argentina, and since then I've done a bunch of stuff, including traveling around Argentina, Chile and Peru, climbing lots of mountains, paragliding over the Andes, getting scuba certifications, drinking way too much beer, and right now chilling in the Caribbean islands of Bocas Del Toro in Panama. In fact right this second I am sitting on a balcony overlooking the ocean and palm trees as I type. Life's tough.

Anyway rather than try to explain everything I have done with words (you'd be reading for hours and probably get quite bored) I thought it might be better to post up some pictures of things I have seen and done.

In short, traveling is a good time. Wish were you here.

Apparently the Andes look good from 36000 feet
9/4/2009 8:18:22 AM
Yesterday my lady and I flew into Buenos Aires, and while I know the stock standard view-from-the-window-of-the-plane-photo is kind of a cliche, how could you not lose your shit when you start to see the first snowcapped peaks of the Andes poking up through the clouds over Chile. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.

Even better news is that Buenos Aires is basically heaven. Amazing beer, wine, coffee, meat, cheese and people. Loving the shit out of it.

Making music videos and Buenos Aires
9/1/2009 10:27:10 PM
So, two interesting things are happening to me today. The first is the release of myself and Chris Cork’s directorial debut for Melbourne band TST’s first music video. Check it out below or grab a higher res version here.

The second is that I am leaving Australia indefinitely for six months of travel throughout South and Central America, culminating in an adventure in the US of A. Stay tuned for more updates…

Hello Buenos Aires.

Ryan Mcginley - Moonmilk
8/21/2009 11:33:30 AM
I just came across this amazing new series 'Moonmilk' from New York based photographer Ryan McGinley. Featuring McGinley's trademark nudes, this aptly named series takes his style to another level with incredible cave locations and eerie sci-fi-esque lighting. So if you're in the UK from September 11 through 'til October 8, head down to the Alison Jacques Gallery to check it all out in the flesh.

India - Wow
8/17/2009 6:52:28 PM
I just arrived back from ten days in India on the weekend where I was on assignment for one of our clients here at Lifelounge, and basically all I've got to say is wow. It's an amazing place – intense, overwhelming, colourful, joyous and devastating all at the same time, and once you're there, there is no escape. The intinerary took in five cities in ten days, including Himalayan mountain stations and holy cities by the Ganges. Mental. Anyway, check out some of the images I shot while we were there and be on the lookout for the fruits of our labour in the not-too-distant future.

Holy Ghost and The Dead Weather - New Videos
7/14/2009 10:00:00 AM
I really, really love good music videos - and these two definitely qualify.

First up is the video for the debut single 'Treat Me Like Your Mother' from Jack White's other other band, The Dead Weather - formed in partnership with The Kills Alison Mosshart. Directed by Jonathan Glazer, the video consists of White and Mosshart in an empty field behind an outer suburban housing estate, in a western-style standoff, blowing each other away with machine guns. And despite other people's comments, I love the shit out of it. Check it out below.

The Dead Weather - Treat Me Like Your Mother

Second up is a newby from NY's Holy Ghost!, for their new track 'I Will Come Back'. In an homage to New Order's 'Confusion', Holy Ghost have put together a video featuring a who's who of New York electronic music, with Arthur Baker, Nancy Whang and Drop The Lime all making cameos. Check it out below, and then take a look at the original New Order video below that.

All Tomorrow's Parties Documentary and new Grizzly Bear Video
6/1/2009 9:41:03 AM
Ooooohh. This looks good. Off the back of the super awesome series of global All Tomorrow's Parties festivals, Warp X are releasing a documentary that...

"Condenses 600 hours of footage from 200 contributors including fans and musicians that have attended recent festivals. All Tomorrow's Parties is the result of a two-year project to document the legendary cult music festival.

With a whos who of alternative music including Battles, Grizzly Bear, Boards of Canada, Grinderman, Slint, Animal Collective, Lightning Bolt, Shellac, Mars Volta, Mogwai, Iggy and the Stooges, Portishead, Fuck Buttons, GZA, Sonic Youth, Les Savy Fav, Patti Smith, Saul Williams, Belle and Sebastian and many more, the final film replicates the journey of an ATP weekend, capturing the sense of wandering from artist to artist surrounded by a bunch of eclectic but like-minded people."

Considering that we have only had the opportunity to attend one ATP festival here in Australia, this is somewhat exciting news. Check the trailer below.

And while we're talking Warp related stuff, check out this awesome new video for the Grizzly Bear track 'Two Weeks' off their new album Veckatimest. Brain Explosion!

School Of Seven Bells - My Cabal - New Video
5/26/2009 3:42:19 PM
I just got sent this link to the new video from School Of Seven Bells for their track 'My Cabal'. And while it's a super simple execution, it really works in this case, making use of some wild tracking, lens changes mid-video and a colour changing cyc, capturing the feel of the track pretty effectively.

After catching them here in Melbourne, I've also gotta say their live show matched up to everything is was touted to be, to the point where it feels like their album almost doesn't do them full justice. Having said that, it'd be quite a task for any producer to capture the power of the Deheza sisters almost mystical vocal harmonies on a record. It's all quite intoxicating. Basically - see them live any opportunity you get, and check the vid below.

Melbourne gets Krump
5/15/2009 4:13:40 PM
Recently, while working on a project for one of our clients, I was given the opportunity to hang out with some super-talented dudes from the local krump scene in Melbourne. In particular I got to head down to North Melbourne to check out a krump workshop that was taking place, and managed to shoot some photos of the guys in action. Trust me, it's an experience worth having, those dudes are wild dancers. Wild. Check them out below.

Play Him Off, Keyboard Cat
5/14/2009 11:04:25 AM
This is quite possibly the the best thing I have seen this month. Maybe even this year. Watch every video I have posted below, then go here to watch the rest.

Prepare yourself for unrestrained happiness.

Thanks for the heads up Chris.
