Guilty Pleasures of Yesteryear - Diana King 1994

An almost completely forgotten song from Bad Boys until this weekend when a very modern gentleman played it at a club. Somehow it was way less lame when everybody was drunk and dancing and it was really loud.
Happy birthday Sketchenry, and thanks for the flashback to 1994.

Return of the thrice-cloned, bling-happy, leather-clad, snake-skin-loafer-wearing, over-emphasising, singing and dancing Black Panther.

Isn't this girl just having the best time of her entire life? Ah, the 90s. It was an interesting time for dancing.
And lyrics, apparently. "Down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down. Whoo!"

Guilty Pleasures of Yesteryear - Swoop 1995

This song is actually even more perky and lame thirteen years later. Or maybe it's because I couldn't find the real music video and instead came across this adorable South Korean ice-skater, Yu-na Kim, wearing a pink glittered ensemble, smiling her face off as she pirouettes and leaps and twirls.
Meanwhile, 'Apple Eyes' was #32 on Triple J's Hottest 100 that year. But Shaggy was in there too, so I guess that doesn't say a whole lot.

Guilty Pleasures of Yesteryear - Suzanne Vega 1990

According to Wikipedia (the source of a lot of bullshit) Vega had originally conceived 'Tom's Diner' as a piece for just vocals and the piano "but since she couldn't play piano, she decided to record it a cappella". That's funny. No?

Guilty Pleasures of Yesteryear - The Outhere Brothers 1994

Great things about The Outhere Brothers: the fact that they made Outhere oneword; that they had singles entitled 'Boom Boom Boom', 'La La La Hey Hey', 'La De De Da De De (We Like to Party)', 'Ae-Ah' and 'Pass the Toilet Paper'; and that they released a best of album a few years ago (not even the punchline) called The Fucking Hits.

Guilty Pleasures of Yesteryear - Black Eyed Peas 1998

Remember when the Black Eyed Peas were three sweet boys made songs about how lame rhymes about money and clothes were? Remember when the Black Eyed Peas hung out after concerts drinking beer with the common folk? Remember when the Black Eyed Peas made fun of video hos and attention whores? Remember when it was about parties and good vibes and take-the-piss lyrics? Remember when the Black Eyed Peas did songs with Kim Hill and Esthero? Remember when the Black Eyed Peas wrote songs that were good? Remember a time before "My hump, my hump, my hump, my hump, my hump, my hump, my hump, my hump, my lovely lady lumps / Check it out". Me too.
Black Eyed Peas 'Joints and Jam' (1998):
And, for good measure, check out how they've become what they used to hate when you compare 'BEP Empire' with pretty much everything since 2003.

Guilty Pleasures of Yesteryear - Spiderbait 1996

Yep. You liked it too. This song brings back memories of being at Pushover and desperately clambering from the sweaty teen-filled moshpit. That was when the boys I hung out with had shoulder-length, mousey brown hair and wore Tool tee-shirts. They were the best of times, they were the worst of times.
