So while i've been here in New Zealand my good friend Brooke has taken me to a few cool spots and then we've proceeded to jump off them. He's got a thing for jumping off bridges, rocks diving boards and hill sides. Brooke like to practice the gayners on almost everything under 15feet (4-5 meters). Me on the other hand I just like to jump hold my breath and then make a weird sound before I make a splash. I've also been know to do a few misty flips but they look like shit! So with that said here is a small collection of what there is to do in New Zealand besides have sex with sheep ( or so i'm told).

;I've been trying to change my profile picture but I just cant seem to figure it out. I'm in New Zealand now, its nice and summery down here. I'm here visiting my good friend Brooke Howard-Smith. If your from this little country he's the guy on Target! Thats some t.v. show here and its what I usually say to people when I meet them, "Hi I'm Mike I'm friends with Brooke from Target". Its only funny when he's standing next to me. So when I was on my adventure in Thailand my friend Erik (the skateboard coach that was there with me) and I were exchanging some photo's. He was laughing at mine cause there was a lot of them with me and random girls. Those party pictures if you will. Erik laughed and said "when I was single I use to take so many of those pictures". So when I left for kiwi land Erik put me on a mission to get a few photo's from new years with some new friends. So with that said I couldn't let him down. Happy New Year! Enjoy them. Now if your really bored check out this "About Me" myspace profile. I actually know this guy. I use to skate with him over ten years ago. Its quite possible the funniest fucking thing i've ever read. I mean he's really serious about it. Pass this on to as many people as possible. Copy, Paste & Enjoy: http://www.myspace.com/dtc1

The End Has Finally Come

Well well well, i'm sure you've been dying to know what happened when we were in Macau for the Asian indoor games. Here's a recap of what went down. For the Rollerbladers I had 4 events. I'm allowed 2 skaters in each event. I have a Park event, Park Best Trick, High Air (over the launch box) and Vert.
In the Park event, my guys Killed it! They dominated the prelims and then went on to destroy the finals. Obviously Gold and Silver medals were handed to them. Jom who won the event highlighted his second run with a double backflip, it was pretty insane. The Park best trick event is weird. The rules are stupid. There's 3 different obstacle's that the event was held on. On each obstacle you have 3 minutes to skate it as much as you can and do as many tricks as possible. There were 4 heats with 4 skates in each heat. At the end of the event the Judge's take the best trick from each obstacle then decide who gets what medals. There are so many flaws in this system its stupid. But since my guys kick ass i'm not too worried. Actually the first obstacle was a handrail which there both really good at but for some reason sucked ass this time. After words Note comes up to me and says "shit man I should have practiced that a little"! Ugg I thought!!! But on the next station, the launch box Jom did a double back flip and a backflip 360 which pretty much left everyone in the dust. The third and final station was a quarter pipe with a ft extension on it. Note who was having trouble the whole time on it landed a 360 kind grind just as the time was expiring (lucky bastard). So it was up to the judges now. Everything worked out great as Jom won the event and Note finished second for the second time that weekend. The high jump is a crowd favorite. Put a bar on the ramp and jump over it. People all over the world cant get enough of it. It's easy to understand and people go high in the air. Jom is not just good at it he's really good at it. I had no doubt that he'd win the event. My other skater was Group. He is Note's older brother, a decent skater who has come a long way in the past 2 years since I first met him. The event was good, the Iranian guy barley made it over the first height, so he was really excited about that. In the end Group nabbed 3rd place while Jom killed it and won his 3rd gold in three events. Not to shabby!!! The vert event was the last event. Note and Czar were my skaters for it. Note didn't give a shit and Czar is always to relaxed to know whats going on. They had 5 days to skate the ramp and get use to it but neither of them really cared. They ended up 5th and 6th which is too bad as they could have done much better.
So with all that said my job here is done. 6 out of a possible 8 medals (3gold, 2silver, 1bronze) is pretty good I would think. I'm really happy my guys skated well and the experience will be one that i'll never forget. And after 3 months in Thailand I never once made out with a tranny! A real success story I think.
Thank you for listening,
Mike Opalek

So its been a while. How are you. Did you miss me? I really tried to update this thing a few times in the past few weeks. I wrote words and posted pictures, it was really neat! But every time I hit the old update button nothing ever happened. So for now all you get is a drunken photo of me and my assistant ( you remember him) drunk in Hong Kong from a few weeks ago. Enjoy!

Asian Indoor Games

Ok, so were in Macau for the games. Its really exciting. The town is ok. Its not like Vegas where there is a strip and casino's all over the place. its spread out a lot more then that. The one cool thing about Macau is that it was ruled by the Portuguese for years and years, so there is some European arcitecture around town. The opening ceremonies were very weird. We sat outside the stadium for about 4 hours, watched the whole thing on a big screen while sitting on astro turf. Then we finally got to walk inside just like all the other countries did. It was exciting when it finally happened but wow it took awhile. I have a final tomorrow so i'm really excited about that. The guys are skating well so thats a plus!!!

So we've been back for a few days from the good ol U.S. of A. and woodward. It was a good few weeks there. The guys had fun skating everyday and shopping at the local malls. Since we've been back in Thailand were getting ready for Macau, which we leave for today. Its the Vegas of Asia and I hate to gamble so it should be an awesome time. Actually as long as they have beer there i'll be fine. I'm in total freak out mode right now since our competitions start this week. Did I push the guys enough? Are they gonna crack? How bad of a coach am I? The perks of being a coach come with a sweet suite with olympic logo's and 3 track suits. I'll have pictures later, but I swear its really, really, sweet! |

I'm not a Doctor

| Its true, I'm not a doctor and I don't play one of T.V. either, but my friend does. He's Rick Springflield's son on General Hospital, Dr. Douchbag or something. I dont know, but I didnt' call him to ask how to take out stitches. Its rather simple really. Its a 2 step process, unless you cut your subject then its more of a 3 or 4 step process. Here I took out the 3 stitches Note got a few weeks ago. It's wise to tell the patient to stop talking when you have scissors near there chin! I didn't cut him so it was a success all around! |

How to coach with an emphases on cross training
16/10/2007 9:43:21 AM

|
You know I think I'm a decent coach, but i'm not the best. But since
were in Los Angeles for a few weeks I'd like to try to do a little
cross training with a few of my guys. I figured they could at least try
a few things out and see what works for them. First off we have good
old, sit on a beach and drink a beer routine. Over the years I've done
my share of sitting down and drinking, so with all that expierence
under my belly I wanted to share it. Here we have Note with my
assistant coach for the day Mr. Mitchell. Mitchell is showing note some
good old art of chill'n on the beach with a Newcastle and the Pacific
Ocean at your feet. This is a tricky one to master, but my assistant is
pretty much the Yoda of this art.
The next one I have enlisted Note (again) and Czar on the art of the
American style breakfest. Once again my trusty assistant Mitchell has
supplyed every thing we need, a house, some pans, eggs, cheese, bacon
(oh god yes bacon!), orange juice and a few little annoying neighbor
girls that you cant see. Before coming to the USofA Czar didn't know
how to stir eggs the American way, my assistant tought him well. You
can just see the happiness flowing from there faces and there wasn't
even any alcohol involved... this time. |

Wow i'm bad

I've never really had a blog before. The pressure has really been getting to me. I've been really lazy about updating it and I feel bad. I really really do. Seriously! But I swear i'm gonna try to make it up to you. Just don't count on me ok.
So this whole Inline skate "training" has been going pretty good. We even flew to California and have been training at Camp Woodward West. Its been good, there have been a few competitions in the area so a few of the guys have gotten to compete. We flew in late on a friday night and we had to wake up early and drive 2 hours to Woodward just so these guys could compete in the AIL championships. AIL is an ameature series that that turns poor stars in the making to poor professional rollerbladers.
One of my best guys Note (its a nickname) was on fire. Of course we got there late and he didn't really have much time to warm up so i was trying to help him with his line and I told him to try something. After his second attempt which didn't go quit as well as his first, he ended up with 2 small cuts on his chin, not to bad but he needed stitches. When the event was over, Note got second place! Not bad for a jet lagged kid with a split chin. He later when to the hospital and got stitches. I know you were wondering about that.
That was the first weekend. The next one found us i San Diego at the SDSF comp. in lovely Escondido, Ca. The guys didn't skate to well but they did get a treat with some of the best skaters in the world doing there thing. If you want to check out some pics go to www.believeinone.com and they have some sweet sequences on there.
Are you bored yet? I dont really even have an photo's for you. I'll try to dig something up...
