Patrick Doherty and I are from the same city. While I don’t know him personally, Perth is the kind of place that runs on about two degrees of separation. From secondhand accounts, he likes to get in there and fuck shit up.
With his work a mixture of both street and fine art, Doherty translates his personality into his practice as the celebrated enfant terrible of the art world. Last year he was asked to participate in Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Arts’ prestigious Primavera show. Since the exhibition is seen to be an annual survey of the best Australian artists under the age of 35 (and in 2007 only nine artists were invited to participate), it’s a pretty damn big deal.
