Japanese artist Shinich Maruyama is not the type of photographer you'd want to lend your studio to in a hurry. In his latest series Kusho, he's captured the exquisite airborne collisions of black indian ink and water which are photographed moments before the two substances inevitably become a grey puddle of mess all over the studio floor. Shot using strobe light technology with speeds up to one 7500th of a second the level of detail is unbelievable. Messy but beautiful stuff.

It is true, the most mundane things look stunning at 10,000 frames a second. Does that mean that we don't appreciate all that we could? Or is it much more simple than that, we just miss beauty when we don't look hard enough?

Extremes of time and space have us gawking like stoners. Whales, midgets, ponies, galaxies, time lapse and super slow mo captivate us. i think Jamie, that it points to the fact that human brains weren't meant for thinking. just for cooling blood or something like that.
